A Treat for Your Heart and Soul

For this week’s blog, I offer you a video that is a gorgeous celebration of creation: God’s gift to us. Enjoy our Earth-home—especially this summer— treasure it, and protect it.  Click on the address below, and when you see the video, enlarge it.  (Click on the triangle on the bottom of the left side to play the video.)

  1. Oh, gosh Kathy, that was sooo beautiful. You made my day. I can watch the natural world on video all day long, especially all of God’s creatures. God truly loves us and the world!

  2. The Nature of God
The video shows Nature in all its beauty, wonder and splendor. But I cannot help thinking of another aspect of Nature – the Elephant in the Room we all ignore. Nature, patently, is also unspeakably savage and cruel. Animal is designed to feed on animal. The carnivore attacks and kills the herbivore who is eaten, often alive – unless the herbivore fights back and kills or cripples the carnivore; in which case the carnivore and its offspring starve to death. I am inclined to say God, who created Nature, has a dark side.

    1. Thanks, Roger, for pointing out the sad side of nature for a balanced view. Perhaps God intended “a peaceable kingdom” before that tragedy we Catholics refer to as original sin devastated the earth…and us.

      1. I bet I was the only one of your readers who already knew about Fibonacci’s Sequence, the “golden number” (1.61), the “golden ratio” and sunflowers. It is presented in episode 2 of the video, “Nature’s Mathematics.” The professor describes nature’s mathematics as, “The greatest show on earth.”

As for Original Sin, consider that Nature, in all its beauty and savagery, had existed for 3.8 billion years before humans set foot on the earth. Consider also that Galileo Galilei was arrested by the Inquisition and found to be guilty of heresy – for daring to say that the earth revolved around the sun. The Church didn’t pardon him until 1992 – six years after the first moon landing. The point being the Church’s teachings are quite prone to fallibility. I had it all figured out by the age of 14 when I left the church.

You are a fine person, and I wish you much happiness in the path you have chosen.
